E280 piggy-backed onto a holster case (no adapters needed). Slip the optional Y305 strap through the webbing slot below the label on the lens pouch and then clip both ends to the corners of the holster. This keeps the lens pouch from flopping around. A Y208 will also work & instead of attaching to the corners, it surrounds the whole case.
Attached to the side of the bag are a pair of Siamese SlikClip buckles, for attaching old style “TwinBuckle” pouches. These are no longer included, but free upon request.

Each C-Series case features a Kinesis exclusive—a over the top QuickClose™ strap. This is faster than using the zipper each time yet keeps your camera intact.

C850 — X-Large Holster Case

The C850 is our biggest holster case. It is sized to hold a full-sized body with a 70-200/2.8, 80-400, 100-400 or a Nikon 500/5.6 lens with the hood in the shooting position. It also fits the Nikon 200-500/5.6 lens or a Sony A7R IV with a FE 200-600/5.6-6.3 OSS with a body attached and the hood stowed.

  • This is one of only a few holster cases available today that holds a large body (i.e. Canon R3, EOS-1D X Mark II, Nikon Z9, D850 or D6 or nearly any other body with an optional vertical grip) and a 70-200/2.8 or 80-400/4-5.6 lens with the hood in the shooting position. It will also house a medium sized body, by using the included CameraCushion in the vertical position, near the prism or top of the camera body.
  • Fits a “large or pro-sized body” with large diameter lens attached, especially the 95mm filter diameter of the Nikon 200-500/5.6 or possibly the 500/5.6 PF (the latter is to be confirmed).
  • Also accommodates a body with a Sigma 120-300/2.8 lens with the hood reversed.
  • When used on a waist belt, the optional Y309 strap kit is recommended to prevent the top of the case from pulling away from the belt.
  • The outside front pocket will hold one shoe-mount flash unit or some prime lenses like a 50/1.4 with the hood attached & reversed (it is unpadded so one should exercise caution).
  • Features an “under the lid” pocket for lens caps, lens tissue, CF or SD cards.
  • Each side of the case has a row of webbing with slots sewn into it, similar to the military MOLLE system. This is for piggy-backing a lens pouch or other small Kinesis pouch. If you have old style Kinesis pouch with the TwinBuckle or metal sliders on it, you need a pair of Siamese SlikClips to attach it. They are available at cost, upon request. See detail photo.
To stabilize the pouch, we recommend adding a Y309 Holster Compression Strap (see detail photo). A Y208 will also work, but it doesn’t attach to the corners, but instead surrounds the whole case.

Backstory

We have received many reports from those purchasing the popular Nikon 200-500/5.6 that the C750 is just a little too tight, so in early 2017 we took the C750 and enlarged it, creating the C850. It is 50mm (2") larger in the base or nose of the case, where the front element sits, and 20mm (3/4") taller.

C850 Field Reports

  • Canon R5 or  R7 + RF adapter + Canon EF 400 mm f4 DO II lens fits (snugly) with Zemilin Photo ’short’ hood mounted.  Will fit with Zemlin or Canon hood reversed with the Canon 1.4X or 2X extender mounted (June 2023).
  • Olympus OM1 with battery grip + Olympus 150-400 f4.5 zoom will fit with hood reversed, with or without the tiny Olympus 1.4X converter.   With the Zemlin ’short’ hood mounted the OM1 + 150-400 combination will fit VERY snugly (case can be zipped closed but quite tight). This won’t work with the longer OEM hood mounted, or with the 1.4X converter attached — I wish the case was a couple of cm longer (June 2023).
  • Just wanted to let you know that my Sony A7R III with the Sony FE 200-600 f/5.6-6.3 G OSS lens attached (but with hood in inverted storage position) fits perfectly in the C850
  • Sony FE 200-600/5.6-6.3
    - “I can confirm the Sony FE 200-600mm G OSS (hood reversed, one filter + lens cap) on the a7R III body fits in the C850. The eyecup is just above the zipper but the bag closes easily. Carrying it chest mounted with a Lowepro harness was workable for me but it does hit my thighs if I need to step high. Normal walking is no problem but that would certainly depend on individual torso height. The C850 is a great case.” (April 2020)
    - “Just wanted to let you know that my Sony A7R III with the Sony FE 200-600 f/5.6-6.3 G OSS lens attached (but with hood in inverted storage position) fits perfectly in the C850.” (March 2021)
  • Nikon Z7 + 500/5.6E PF lens. “The Z7 with FTZ adapter for F mount 500mm F5.6 PF with hood in place for shooting fits in that bag, snug but fits……Just unzip and shoot.“ (July 2020)
  • Sony A1 + 100-400/4-5.6 DM OSS with the hood extended fits with about 2" to spare (May 2023).

C750 Field Reports

(The C750 was the “slightly smaller” predecessor to the C850.)

  • Nikon 200-500/5.6 lens with hood attached in the stowed position with a D3X body attached: Very tight fit and bulges out the base or “nose” of the case a little. Because of the fit, it is slow to remove. Works fine without the hood attached.
“If I had to make a call on whether the C750 is a good choice for the 200-500 and a body, I'd say:
    -  Yes, if it is used for transportation and protection with the 200-500 lens hood reversed.
    -  Yes, if the 200-500 lens hood is removed.
    - No, if a photographer wants the holster to provide quick access for a body and the 200-500. It isn't the best choice because of the tight fit. (October 2015)
  • “I got the bag, C640, very nice, it fit my Canon Mark3 + 400mm 5.6 + 1.4xtc perfectly.” (June 2007)
  • Sigma 150–500 lens with tripod foot attached with a Canon body on. “The zipper zips up fine when the hood is turned inward. When I have the hood out, and the [QuickClose] strap over the top of the case and lengthened a bit, I can strap the lid down enough to secure the camera even though it sticks out a bit, of course. Ready to be pulled out for a hand held shot in a second!” (June 2010)
  • Sigma DG 150-500/5-6.3 APO HSM zoom lens with a 86mm Ø UV filter and the hood reversed appears to fit fine in the C750 holster case, with the hood attached & stowed (March 2015).
  • “I received the C750 X-Large Holster Case today. Just want to let you my Pentax K-3 with the Pentax 150-450 lens attached and the lens hood stowed fits perfectly. I am pleased with the padding and overall quality of the bag. It’s also nice to find products made in America.” (January 2016)

Holster Case Features (many of the photos are dated)

Specifications

Constructed with 10mm closed cell foam on the sides, 6mm on the lid, and for additional protection, 16mm on the bottom.

The C850 CameraCushion divider is unique to this case and we currently do not offer it as an add-on accessory like the V100 CameraCushion. The V100 is too small to fit in the middle of this case, but it can be placed on the bottom for additional protection if desired.

*The “d” or depth dimension of the case corresponds to measuring from the tripod thread (or quick-release plate) to the top of the prism or hot-shoe mount. The C540, C600 & the C850 holsters all have the same top opening dimension. These cases will yield a comfortable fit for a body up to 16cm (6.3") high or a snug fit for a body up to 17.5cm (6.75") high.

The “w” or width dimension corresponds to the width of your camera body (the left to right dimension as you are holding it up to shoot).

The “height" dimension of the case corresponds to the dimension measuring from the end of your lens cap to the back of the camera or LCD screen.

**The bottom of the C850 is approx. 14.5 cm (5.75") square, but it will accommodate a lens end (cap) up to 15 cm (6") in diameter — the front & rear of the case just bulges out a little.
